OK so Billy the Judge has posted the pools. Who are the Odds on Favorites? I will give you some early lines:
Bandits: Even Money - Depends which team they send Hawks Judge: 2-1 - With his ump on his field, who knows what will happen Rockers Doc : 5-2 - After IOWA, this team will be ready to ROCK! Hawks Findley: 7-1 - Still putting it all together Hawks Noble: 10-1 - Can the pitching hold up Rockers RC: 15-1 - Football / Cheerleading / Homecoming will leave this team short, can they pull a epic and come back on Sunday? Nationals: 25-1 - Good Coach, Good Team, need to gel more Field: 35 - 1 - Could be some upsets, but they way the brackets will fall, Judge will make it easy!

How long before gate money totals start coming up short ? Can you say "personality pattern"?

How much do they really want to make? 17 Pool games x ($50 per game field + 45 per umpire) = 1615 Lights = 225 Bracket Play: 33 Games x (50 per field, 75 per ump) = 4125
Total cost = 5965 17 teams @ 550 = 9350 = PROFIT of 3385. Even if they give $100 per team to ASA, that is still a profit of 1685. The gate fee is ridiculous! BTW these estimates are prob on the high end!

A little birdie told me that Judge gets Joliet fields for dirt cheap. 25 bucks a game and they never use lights over there. They make 3/4 K easy prior to gate fees. Paying 550 is asinine for a softball tournament.

I don't like it either, but you know what they say.
Don't like the way others do it, do it yourself.

This is the way of the softball world. Boulder tournament is $1100 and Fireworks is $1595. If you don't like it go play double headers out at stone city.

That is how you justify it, by just saying that is the way it is? Why dont we start making better decisions and being a little bit more educated with our decisions. 1100 and 1600 dollars to play in a softball tournament is a joke. What are people going to say when it is $2000, oops i guess that is just how it is. I hope and expect a change in this current system. It needs to in order to benefit softball or we are going to have a lot more soccer and lacrosse players in the near future.

Dont forget the 'housing coordinator' at these tourneys(except Boulder). Mark up rooms by $40 and get kickbacks from hotel. At least there are fences at these tournaments.

Yeah the fences are a nice touch right, almost unheard of around here. Housing Coordinator. unreal, and these tournaments try to kick you out of the tournament if you dont use one of their sanctioned hotels. Greed is a helluva vice.

Sounds like you are new to softball. This is the normal pricing for any big exposure tournaments around the country. The poster abouve lays out the cost of operating a tournament but fails to realize that in most of these tournaments you have to pay people to take care of fields and others to help run the tournament. Any one who has been around this sport and played outside their own backyard knows that this is a money maker for most that run these tournaments and clubs. When Bat Busters have a camp and charge $120 per kid and have 1000 show up, do you think he is giving back to the community or when he charges $1200 non refundable deposit for tryouts and is you don't make the team they keep your $1200. Everyone out there knows but they still line up for tryouts. Open your eyes and pull your head out of the sand, this goes on everywhere.

Pay people to take care of the fields? How much maintenance will happen in-between games? PLUS, most of that cost is worked into the Field rental charge, which I have stated at %40 per field (WHICH IS HIGH)
I understand it is about making money and I am fine with that. Just don't sit here and say (Which BOTH Bill and Jim have said) that they don't make ANY money off the tournament. That is why they charge a GATE FEE.
To me, That is just stupid.
As for the Exposures. You pay 1100 at Boulder and you get 7 guarantee games against the best competition in the country. To me, very price effective! Heck teams are paying $550 this weekend to play in 4 game guarantee against local teams on fields with no fence.

Easy Bob, I have been around the block. These services are not being provided. Further more most people working these tourneys are volunteers. I am not against profit for these events. I am against exceptions given by ASA that allow no fences. These qualifiers should mimic conditions as close as possible as Nationals. Lack of fences is just being cheap. They run events almost all season. Buy the temp fences or rent them. Come on Joe and Tom. This is all for the kids, correct. Stop letting these people off the hook.

Not saying what they will be providing but I agree fences should be at all qualifiers. I will make sure the rockers have fences up this season at any qualifiers we might host.
