I wonder if it would be more beneficial to play high school softball in the fall in this area opposed to the spring. We generally have much better weather in the fall and after the season it would give kids tons of time to visit colleges, and actually get to watch college softball games on their visits in the spring. thoughts?

That is the worst idea ever because it makes way too much sense.

Well the IHSA for 1. They don't care about much except making sure they make a profit from Football and Basketball. Most other sports are breakeven sports for them. As for moving it, they will never do that. If they move any sport, they will flop Boys and Girls Soccer for scheduling purposes. In their bylaws they talk about Fall Softball, however I do not think anyone even plays it.

Well this is what the Ihsa wants you to believe, but I bet boys wrestling generates as much money as boys basketball. Regionals and Sectionals are packed with fans and they average about 10,000 plus fans down at assembly hall for the state tournament. To get back on track here it is only logical to move softball to the fall. The only conflict would be girls volleyball many play two sports.

I agree that some play both sports. But specialization is usually done by this level. I would argue the pool of kids playing both is a lot less than you think especially the most talented ones. Gone are the days of a 3 sport athlete.

Gone are the days of a 3 sport athlete. I'm sure there are many examples of two or three sport athletes that get college scholarships. I can see it being an issue the first couple years if they switched. Once people got used to the change it could be a major benefit.

It would make exposure stuff (Oct tourneys) real difficult. I agree the weather sucks. But I think the higher calibur kids would much rather it stay the way it is so they can get exposed during the month of Oct. That is of course unless colleges change their schedules too. Good luck with that! LOL.
