THREE THINGS WE KNOW
No. 1. Montini freshman Alyssa Sclafani has game. Sclafani shattered the school single-season home run record that stood at four. She has nine on the season to go with 43 RBIs— just six shy of that record. She is fourth on the team with a .456 batting average. Fellow freshman Isabell Alexander is hitting .583 and has an on-base percentage of .673 to go with 32 stolen bases. Montini’s future seems bright with only two senior starters and a 23-6 record.
No. 2. Lane has turned the corner. George Stavrakas’ team has won 17 in a row and is expected to have a dominant showing in this week’s Public League playoffs. After starting 0-5, the Indians have amassed a 23-9 record. Junior Emily Espinosa (.529, five home runs, 21 RBI) and freshman Kayla Garcia (.510, eight home runs, 48 RBI) have led the way offensively. “I have never had a 1-2 punch like this in my lineup,” Stavrakas said.
No. 3. St. Ignatius’ Katie Gallagher has some pop. The three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, softball) is hitting .357, and has an amazing .714 slugging percentage. Seventeen of her 30 hits have been for extra bases, including six home runs. She leads the team in runs (23) and RBI (28). In one week, she had game-winning hits against De La Salle and Oak Park-River Forest.
CONGRATS TO: Coach Richie C, Coach Bu, and Coach Feds on a great season at Montini, and good luck heading into the playoffs!
