What advice would you give to a freshman trying out for their high school varsity team?

Work hard and volunteer fro drills and toting equipment around but be prepared for uphill climb against upperclassmen. You will have to be undeniably better than upperclassman at that spot and even then you still might not get picked. Examine previous years rosters and determine how many if any freshmen and sophomores make teams. Lastly, the question that will come up is Lots of playing time on JV or sit on Varsity.

That is always a tough decision. Even for the coaches it is a hard call. What makes that player better for the future? I don't know of there is a correct answer.

First off play hard. Don't be scared of upperclassmen but be mindful of them. Have fun and just do your best.

Know two girls that are freshman in college this year playing D1 & 3 ball. Both played JV. ball freshman year in H.S. Like Magnet said sit or play. These two played every game at J.V. while two other Freshman that played on varsity played very little. Those two other girls are no longer playing ball. So to the freshman, keep working and good things will come.
