Hello everyone,
I have been on a recent retreat and have been able to return to softball to spread the truth.
Been catching up on some material on many softball websites, and i find the same themes on all of them. Parents freaking out about recruiting, some idiots trying to rank "programs" just about every day, and this obsession with Bill Conroy.
Parents love to think their pumpkin is a D-1 prospect. Some are, many are not. But that is ok. Dont let your ego get in the way of your daughter enjoying the game and playing at the next level. D-2, D-3, NAIA, all have many opportunities for girls to play and get a great education, there is NOTHING wrong with that! College coaches do this recruiting for a LIVING, you will not fool them, if you do they are probably on the verge of losing their job then.
The ranking of programs always makes me laugh. What exactly is the criteria for these? How many girls get recruited, winning, people actually enjoying their softball experience?
Bill Conroy has done a lot for the game and in the midwest. But people need to relax with the love affair with this guy. Getting top tier players/athletes recruited is not the most difficult task. Getting the kids recruited who are your 8th, 9th, 10th, etc player on teams. That takes a coach to help and put in work. The blue chip players will get recruited either way, doesnt take a ton of effort to make that happen. Im not saying Bill doesnt put in effort, but getting the best players in the area a scholarship isnt inventing the wheel here. Point being MANY coaches and programs get overlooked with the amount of work they do helping kids get recruited and some parents actually think they need to play on the bandits in order to get a scholarship, which is a complete joke!
