What has been the biggest improvement of fall ball this year? More and More girls are starting to play ONLY softball. Not that I agree with this trend, but it makes for the fall to be more competitive. There is also more teams playing for Bids to nationals. ASA has really tried to get fall qualifiers out there. September was loaded with qualifiers. That is a nice improvement.
What do you look for when attending college exposure tournaments? College Coaches. When you are shelling out $600 to play 4-5 games, you want your kids to be seen. My team was in the PGF raising Stars tournament and the Ringor Betcher Exposure, BOTH were well attended by college coaches. I expect the Sparks to be well attended as usual and of course, the grand daddy of them all is St. Louis. Showcasing the girls is what I look for with College Exposures.
What strategies do you implement while coaching during exposure tournaments? My assistants coach the bases.I try to be available to college coaches to answer questions and see what needs they have. We do not Sacrifice Bunt as a team in College exposures either, and we make sure all our girls play each game.
What do you think colleges are looking for in terms of players? They want girls who hustle, are good teammates, and that can handle adversity. It doesnt hurt to throw 60+ or hit a ball over 225 feet!
Is the Fall season too long? Well . . . In a perfect world, the month of August would be a No contact month. Players need time off after nationals. Try-outs should be the first week in September and that would help shorten the fall season, BUT we all know that won't happen.
How would you rate the state of the Rockers at this point? I think everything is going GREAT. We have 8 Pretty nice teams and will do very well this year. It is an exciting time in Neon Nation. The addition of the CN team is a pleasant surprise. Man, can those kids PLAY!
