2/25/13 - Tryouts . . .
How many have put in the work to excel, how many have sitting back on past achievements?
What team will be the best on paper (Notice, not the best on the field)?
What teams will make the biggest strides from last year to this year?
Who is a team no one is talking about now, that will be the talk of the town come June?

I think all of our Rocker girls will be ready for a great spring! I know we have great coaches who will have them ready to excel on the Varsity fields this season.
What team will be the best on paper (Notice, not the best on the field)?
In my opinion, 2 teams stick out that are the best on Paper: DGN and Providence. I agree, moving back to 4A will be a big test for the Celtics, however with the addition of Judge and Cothern they will be tougher too!
What teams will make the biggest strides from last year to this year?
Tinley park - Watch for them to shock teams in the southwest suburbs! Peotone - All the ingredients to make a run to East Peoria! Willowbrook - WSC Gold champs in 2013, Count on it!
Who is a team no one is talking about now, that will be the talk of the town come June?
East Peoria - They might not lose with the Picthing they have!!!!
One last subject I would like to discuss - HS Coaches vs Travel coaches.
Time and Time again, I hear people say "High School coaches ruin my travel players." Well yes I will agree that there are some high school coaches who are out there collecting a stipend and do not know much about coaching, but there are just as many travel coaches out there that don't know much either who are doing it do their daughters can be the SS of the team (Yet collect NO stipend). That statement is a BROAD statement and it pisses me off. I even heard it from Coaches in my own High School program. These are some very good high school coaches out there that you should be honored to have your daughter play for. The next 3 months should be a good time for your daughter. Playing for your community and the pride of your school should be fun. Again, I agree that some high schools have bad coaches and bad politics, but that is just life! You can not get through life without seeing someone get treated differently or promoted ahead of you because of who they know! Here is my take on how HS coaches should be viewed:
Look at the school over a 10 year period (Or as long as the coach has been there.) See how many Regional / Sectional / State appearances they have. Then see how many are consecutive. Lastly look at the "Travel" programs in their area.
When you look at all that criteria you can see if someone is very consistent or not. Then when you factor in the travel program in the areas, you will see what type of talent walks thru their doors. Some area's have better talent that walks thru than others I will give you that, but if your school has teams in the area who play ASA "B",NSA and USSSA yet still wins regionals 8 of 10 years and gets down state 2-3 times, I would say that coach is pretty darn good. Conversely if you see a team who wins regionals a lot, usually loses in the sectionals, never has gotten down state yet has players who play for the "Gold" Teams and High level "A" programs on the roster, maybe that coach is a poor coach.
The main difference between HS and travel coaches I see is this: HS coaches have to coach people who walk thru their doors. Travel coaches get to build a team of their choosing, of which many girls WANT to play at the college level.
Again, just my opinion and like I said, YES there are good HS coaches and some VERY Bad ones, but the same can be said in Travel!

Young guy, she played for him, past tense. Plus that was travel not high school. He is a decent coach when he has talent but at a high school where he can't cherry pick other teams, he ruins kids. How many seniors did he have last year on his team?

Richie C Skip handicapping High School. You are way off. Willowbrook? Peotone wont get past Bishop Mac. ESCC is up for grabs between Mac, Benet, Marist, Marian Catholic and Providence. That might be best conference in Northern Illinois this year.I do think that Providence will benefit in that Sectional. DGN has to learn how to score, could have trouble with Glenbard West and possibly OPRF.

How many seniors did he have last year on his team? Old guy, Ok now he is a decent coach but ruins kids? Enough of the sour grapes you sound like a big baby. Worry about DGN finally winning a regional for once with your two D-1 pitchers.

And old guy, if you have a problem with how I coach or what I do let me know. If you feel I disrespected your daughter, let me know. Untill then, get off your soap box pal. Lastly, I had 3 seniors last year.
