Lemont senior pitcher Carly Jaworski was a major factor on the mound and at the plate in their sectional semifinal win against host Nazareth. She struck out 12 and had three RBI for the Indians in their 6-0 victory.
“She did an outstanding job on the mound,” Indians coach Christine Traina said.
Jaworski got the Indians’ offense going with an RBI triple in the bottom of the first and added a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. catcher Lauren May had an RBI single in the first for the Indians and center fielder Rachel Hall had a two-run double in the second.
“It was a great feeling to know that the team is behind you,” Jaworski said. “We all have to do our jobs.”
On the mound, Jaworski had little difficulty overpowering the opposition with a nasty variety of pitches. She went the distance and allowed just three hits.
The Roadrunners’ (21-16) best scoring chance came in the second with the bases loaded and two out, but they were unable to capitalize against Jaworski.
“It was disappointing for the season to end the way it did,” Nazareth coach Kristen Stojetz said. “We had, I thought, a solid season and I don’t think today was a direct reflection on our team.”
The Indians (25-6) face defending champion Glenbard South on Saturday in the sectional final.
